I just came across this advert for the 5" Wilton "Bullet" vise and I thought I just might help someone decide to spend a lot of money to buy one. I purchased my vise new in 1972 and paid right around $300.00 for it. (I recall some people telling me I was nuts for spending that much money on a vise.) Okay, $300.00 in the early 70's was a lot of money but, I have used that vise almost on a daily basis for well over 35 years and, it has never failed me in anyway. I've not babied the vise either, if a job requires a heavy vise to be completed that's right were it goes. Other than normal wear to the jaws (it still has the original serrated jaws,)and a few marks where I've hit it with a hacksaw, it as good as the day I bought it. I've cleaned and lubed the slide and screw and, painted it a few times, but other than that I've never put a penny's worth of repair into it. I don't know if the new Wilton's are made in America anymore, but if they are I wouldn't hesitate for a second to buy another one even at the current $900.00 price tag.
