Jet 708124 XLIFT-K: Xacta-Lift Router INS w/ DLX Fence Review

I have had this lift for several years (it came with my Jet table saw) and as a lift it does a good but not perfect job. This lift is actually made by Jessem (Rout R Lift) and I believe it is the only lift currently available for use with fixed AND plunge routers.

From the Jessem website:
The main insert plate is 11-3/4" x 14-3/4" x 3/16" solid aluminum and anodized for durability. One
revolution of the quick speed knob equals 0.05"

Split Fence with vacuum attachment (this IS NOT A JESSEM FENCE)

Pros: This lift uses a master plate that is pre-drilled for most routers (However, I had to drill new holes for my Hitachi 12v2 3.25 hp) you remove the base plate from your router then screw it into the plate very simple. Note, if you use a plunge router you might want to remove the springs from the routers shaft but it is not required with most routers. The center hole will accept up to a 3 1/2" raised panel bit. Jessem offers replacement ring inserts so you can adjust the opening to the size of the bit. Travel for the lift is excellent at 2 1/2 inches (note: if you have removed the springs from your plunge router you can adjust the depth of the router it self for an additional 2+ inches of travel) The plate is very strong aluminum and has a good leveling system.

Cons: The crank is a belt driven system and as such has some slack when changing direction of travel. The best technique is too go past where you want to be then ease up to the final adjustment. Works well but there are smoother systems out there. The fence is 2 star at best. It has a split face and a vacuum attachment (not sure if vacuum attachment comes with or is an option?) dust collection is pretty good. The biggest problem with the fence is the attachment points. The fence attaches to the plate causing a very limited depth of cut at most you get 2.5 inches of travel from bit to fence. Fine for edge routing in many situations but I have found it to be very frustrating and have replaced it with a Rockler fence that is longer, taller and attaches to the table. The last knock on the lift is the distance from the front of the plate to the opening. It is about 10 inches so by the time you add a miter channel you are 11 inches from the bit. Therefore you can not use after market accessories with the miter slot. All of your feather boards etc will have to be shop made. Not a game breaker but not convenient either. (Tip: mount the plate with the back edge toward the front edge of table and use after market fence now your miter slot will be closer to the bit.)

Overall: Even with its limits I like this lift. By using it with a Hitachi 3.25 router I can turn some very large bits and a cost that is far less then dedicated lift/router motor units (3+ hp routers with removable motors cost well over $300 alone) and I can use the router handheld if needed.
